Health ministry hosts reproductive health workshop

GIS:-The aim of the workshop is to innovate new strategies to diminish the spread of HIV among key populations.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness, as a sub-recipient of the Global Fund OECS Multi Country HIV and TB Elimination Grant, and in collaboration with the Caribbean Vulnerable Communities Coalition, hosted a two-day workshop on sexuality, and sexual and reproductive health for service providers working with at-risk youth.

The workshop presented the participants with the information and resources to deal with vulnerable groups.

Senior medical officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Michelle Francois, said the workshop will help youth workers understand the problems of at risk youth and factor in behavior change.

Psychotherapist, Dr. Hazel DaBreo, made a presentation on how to combat the spread of the HIV epidemic among disenfranchised youth.

Several service providers including nurses, doctors, counselors, social workers, representatives from the Upton Girls’ Garden Centre and the Boys’ Training Centre benefited from the workshop.

The workshop was held on May 29 at the Palm Haven Hotel.
