A suspect is in police custody in connection with Wednesday’s fatal hit-and-run accident at Gros Islet, law enforcement sources have confirmed.
Former police officer, Joseph Altidore, died at Victoria Hospital after being transported there following the accident.
According to information, Altidore, who operates a taxi, was struck by a motor cycle shortly before 9.am near the Bank of Saint Lucia Gros Islet branch.
He was on foot at the time.
After hitting Altidore, the cycle hit a car before the motorcyclist fled the scene.
Police officers tracked down the suspect, who reportedly hails from Mornier, Gros Islet and arrested him yesterday.
A post mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted today on the body of Altidore, who is said to be in his seventies.
