Regional Workshop on Building of Sustainable Climate Change National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Management Systems

PRESS RELEASE:-With serious concerns on the disastrous consequences of climate change on small island developing states like Saint Lucia, over 40 professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean, will congregate at the Bay Gardens Hotel from June 12 to 16, 2017, to deliberate on building sustainable Climate Change national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory management systems.

The broad-based group will also seek to understand and apply best practices relevant to the setting up of domestic measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems to facilitate GHG inventory reporting.

This consultation, comes as a response by UNFCCC Parties for further technical support.

It is anticipated that this training will facilitate continuity in meeting reporting requirements, through training on the use of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories.

During the 5-day consultation, specialists will enhance the capacity of national experts with respect to the building of sustainable climate change national GHG inventory management systems.

The timely conference will also serve as a platform for the exchange of views, lessons learned, and related experiences.

As a signatory to the UNFCCC, the Government of Saint Lucia (GOSL), is partnering with the UNFCCC Secretariat, UN- Environment and UNDP to host this workshop.
