Queen’s Baton visits St Lucia

The Queen’s Baton has made its way through St. Lucia and the Sports Minister Fortuna Belrose was full of praise for the schools that participated in the event.

St Lucia is the 23rd stop for the Queen’s Baton on its journey through 70 countries around the world in the lead up to Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas (19th – 23rd July). The 2018 Commonwealth Games will take place in Australia.

The baton was received by Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy and taken through a number of schools across St Lucia.

“We really want to commend the Principals, the students for really showing off St. Lucia’s culture in the wonderful way that they did as the baton went across our country,” Belrose said.

The Commonwealth Youth Games was moved to the Bahamas because St. Lucia was unable to host due to the lack of facilities.

St. Lucia will be represented by 27 athletes who will compete in seven different sports.

Belrose is also Regional Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and President of the Commonwealth Games Federation of St Lucia.
