St Lucia Team returns from Guadeloupe Women 7s Rugby Tournament

PRESS RELEASE:-On the 10 June 2017 the Saint Lucia National 7s team participated in the third Good Luck Rugby Club Women 7’s Tournament in Guadeloupe. The national team was selected from participants in the recently concluded LUCELEC Michael Mathurin Tournament held in Saint Lucia. In Guadeloupe the national team, captained by Marline Cherry, came second in the competition, losing only one of their 5 matches. The tournament standings were:
First place – Good luck rugby
Second place – Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union
Third place – Trinite rugby
Fourth place – Bruc rugby
Fifth place -Diamante rugby
Sixth place – Le Francoise rugby

Apart from collecting the second place trophy various members of the team received individual awards:

Signa President – Good Luck Rugby Club President’s Award

Shena St. Mark – Dream team award (awarded to the top ten players of the tournament)
Emma George-Mills – Dream team award
Signa President – Good Luck Rugby Club President’s Award
Kameka Kasey President – Most Valuable Player of the Tournament

The President of the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union, Roger Butcher, indicated that in 2016 the Union concentrated on developing the domestic rugby league. This tournament was the first international female tournament has participated in since 2014. The Union is working towards St. Lucia’s participation in the Rugby Americas North Rugby Sevens Tournament in Mexico City in November 2017.

Carnival Beach Rugby tournament on 16 July 2017
