Forecasters monitoring movements in Tropical Atlantic

Forecasters are monitoring two systems in the tropical Atlantic which they believe have the potential to develop over the next several days.

The system of most interest to St Luca is a tropical wave located more than 2,000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles or nearly 800 miles west of the African Coast as of Thursday morning.

Forecasters say this area has a 10-percent chance of development within the next 48 hours, and a 20-percent chance within the next five days.

Some gradual development of this system is possible during the next few days while the wave moves westward near 20 mph over the tropical Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Centre.

The second system is an area of shower and thunderstorm activity extending from the western Caribbean into the far southern Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Centre says this area has a 0-percent chance of developing within 48 hours, and a 50-percent chance within the next five days.

The St Lucia Met Service says it will continue to monitor the progress of these two tropical waves as they move across the tropical Atlantic over the next few days.
