Tropical Storm Bret has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean and is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the southern Windward Islands Monday night into early Tuesday, forecasters say.
The Storm is currently more than 100 miles southeast of Trinidad, moving swiftly toward the west-northwest.
Bret is moving toward the west-northwest near 30 mph (48 km/h) and is expected to continue at a slightly slower speed over the next 48 hours, according to the National Hurricane Centre in Miami.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and Venezuela.
A tropical storm watch is in effect for Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao.
Forecasters says heavy rain, locally gusty winds and increased seas are expected to be the main threats in the Windward Islands from this tropical storm Monday night into Tuesday.
Persons with marine interests in St Lucia are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution.
Local forecasters say waves and swells associated with this system, can cause the seas to become rough.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and continue to listen to all reports that are issued by the St Lucia Meteorological Service or the National Emergency Management Organization.
