Moses Jn Baptiste unleashes a blistering attack on Ezekiel Joseph

The former Agriculture Minister Moses Jn Baptiste has unleashed a blistering attack on his successor, accusing Ezekiel Joseph of sitting on his “backside” while the rest of the OECS islands move to diversify their Agricultural sectors.

Jn Baptiste, the MP for Vieux Fort North, made the remarks at a St Lucia Labour Party meeting on the Castries market steps Tuesday night.

He described Ezekiel Joseph as a “lazy man doing nothing”.

“Right now St Vincent and Dominica are shipping dasheen and other produce to the northern Caribbean while Ezekiel Joseph is sitting on his backside, a lazy man doing nothing, and all he’s saying is that he’s going to plant bananas,” Jn Baptiste said to loud cheers from the audience.

“The man is a lazy man,” he continued.

Mr. Jn Baptiste said the government had abandoned an ambitious plan to diversity St Lucia’s agricultural sector by shipping produce to islands in the Northern Caribbean and the United States.

He was referring to the virtual OECS Agri-Export Working group which began in June 2016.

Since the start of the initiative, St. Vincent and the Grenadines has shipped 3,325 50lb boxes of dasheen to the United States; and Dominica, on its first shipment, successfully exported a 20ft container comprising 425 50lb boxes of dasheen, according to a statement released last week by the OECS Secretariat.

Jn Baptiste said Ezekiel Joseph has the worst record in agriculture in St Lucia

He stated that, under the St Lucia Labour Party government, local agricultural sales to the hotels and supermarkets had increased.

He said public servants with a proven record of success in the Agricultural industry, who are now being sought after by other Caribbean islands, were fired by Ezekiel Joseph because he believes they are Labour party supporters.

He questioned whether the government had a plan for Agriculture in St Lucia.

So the St.Lucia Marketing Board, what did you Moses do about it when your administration was in power.

Now a question for all politicians especially for Moses
What have you’ll done to successful attract young persons into agriculture.
If young persons are not interested, did you’ll just sit on you backsides and continue to sing that young people are not interested?
Did you Moses explore out of the box ideas on how agriculture can be more attractive to a wider demographic especially younger persons?
I don’t think people really understand the money that is to be made from agriculture.
The question is, did any one of you’ll successfully sensitize the general pubic on these opportunities?
All of you’ll are tired, who need to take a back seat and let persons with ideas that can disrupt the agriculture industry.
Yes we need disruptive ideas not medicore, comfortable ideas.
Then we will be in business.

So Moses sorry to say, but by your record you fall in the lazy category too.

      So the question remains.
When you are faced with what you have outlined above that the results were not as expected, what did they do to get it to where they wanted it to be?

Now I am starting to loose all my confidence in the St Lucia Time. You mean a Minister was in govt for 5 years (not for the first time) did nothing to diversify agriculture. Now in 1 year you want this minister to do it. Does that make sense “St Lucia Times”? I am not surprise because Mr. Jn Baptiste don’t seem to understand what he reads or he is just deceitful. He claimed to be the expert with the Equine disease Free Zone and misled the nation on this issue. The Press Release on the Dasheen and the OECS dated 22 June 2017 read ” “Agricultural Revolution underway in the OECS”. Wouldn’t our Minister be involved in that revolution? Why wasn’t it done under his Ministry the last 5 years in govt. MUSA has become and embarrassment.

WE could not have shipped because YOU as Minister of agriculture prior to June of 2016 did nothing to help or encourage the dasheen farmer. Now you are blaming the 1 year old Min of Agriculture. Diversification takes times.
Anyway, you are in were in your comfort zone, where you are aware that you listeners are those people that you and your government kept poor and unlearned. No better is expected.

The WHOLE agricultural belt voted this administration into office.HAVE ANYTHING BEEN DONE FOR AGRICULTURE IN THE LAST YEAR? THIS ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES TO WHIP THE DEAD HORSE CALLED BANANAS. We cannot compete in the world banana market and we must admit that so we must diversify. When a new ministers of agriculture feels threatened by the workers in his ministry because they are better qualified than him then the ministry is in BIG trouble. this minister has NO knowledge of how to be an administrator cause he would be able to use the skills and knowledge of the persons in the ministry to get the BEST job done

Has anything been done for agriculture over the past years?
What significant strides were made in this industry over the past years or during the last administration?
As far as I am concerned NO ONE has come up with anything innovative in the past years. NO ONE.

Tired of all the politicians in this country we need the youth to step up to the plate and take their rightful position to run this country. They must have the vision and the love for the people and the country. Don’t get into politics for party and to tow the lines of De party. I think we need a coalition government. Persons from different parties and not the red or the yellow. Tired of all this back and forth and pontificating from both sides. The people need to see things objectively and stop supporting blindly their Party and all that it says and does. Stop making the politicians demi gods, they are only human. Put God first!!!!
