Caribbean Airlines plane makes emergency landing in Vieux Fort

A Caribbean Airlines flight made an emergency landing at the Hewanorra International Airport Sunday.

The pilot informed airport officials of an engine fire around eight minutes away from Vieux Fort, sources say.

Emergency services in the area were placed on alert as the plane approached the airport.

The plane landed safely shortly after 3:00PM. It was met by emergency services, including fire trucks and ambulances.

St Jude Hospital confirmed it was notified of the emergency and immediately activated the necessary protocols to deal with a mass casualty situation.

None of the 68 passengers on board were reportedly injured. The plane’s intended destination and point of origin are unclear.

St Lucia Times has contacted Caribbean Airlines headquarters in Trinidad for comment.

This is ridiculous. Are u saying that Hewannora Airport has no clue about where the plane was going? Or did you not ask them. Or did you and they did not tell you?

Some of you people just don’t understand .that information is not given, only after an investigation as to what happened it will be given or if the airline desides to do so. This may just be a TSA and NSB or ECCAA investigation. An will look at the response and systems in place for such . I know the man an women at HIA and SLASPA have done many drills for such.

You’re right but then you still need to blame Saint Lucia news for not getting all information regarding the emergency landing. As you can see always, Saint Lucia news posts up events but half of the time they either never get the facts right or don’t obtain all facts before exposing it to the public.

I was on board. It was the BW 434 to George Charles, SLU. We were almost there when the pilot came on to report the fire and the diversion to Hewanorra. We were in full emergency/ crash landing mode. Everyone was in brace position for 5 or more minutes. Many had donned their life vests. It was nerve wracking! Kudos to the captain amd 2 attebdants for their guidance and deliverying us safely and to all the Gods we serve.

You people are all very ridiculous. The first thing any news outlet (including CNN & BBC) does is report the basic facts as they come in. Later as more information and details are obtained the public in updated. While I am not a member of stluciatimes.com I have been following them very closely and can state that they too follow the same general format in updating the public as more information comes in. Let us therefore show at least a little appreciation for the fact they are keeping us the public informed at what is happening.

You are actually showing how ignorant you are. They are completely correct. The plane could have been heading anywhere and landed at UVF because it was the closest airstrip when they emergency occurred.

Looking at the route of the aircraft it could have clearly landed in the north. Why did they choose to turn back all that way when they were close to their destination.

there are “SOP’s” that must be followed ( standard operation procedures) Hewanorra being an international airport would better equipped to handle that situation.

Some Saint Lucians only display their ignorance and how uneducated they are based on the narcissistic comments they leave after a news report or social media report has been issued. We as an island family in Saint Lucia need to stop exhibiting our flamboyant naive sides which only showcase us as a small minded people.

Dear senseless Saint Lucians, do us educated persons a favour. If you have absolutely no valuable input on a situation, PLEASE SAY NOTHING! That is why our neighbouring islands do better than us. They think before the speak or type complete garbage.
