Gros Islet MP, Lennard Montoute has promised to fix the roads in Monchy to avoid a potential strike by mini-bus operators unhappy with the road conditions.
Mr. Montoute made the promise after meeting with residents of the area this week.
He has been holding a number of town hall-style meetings in his constituency, to meet with residents and listen to their concerns.
The Gros Islet MP said bad roads, poor street lighting and jobs were some of the key issues highlighted by the residents.
“I have spoken to the engineer responsible for the area. I have spoken to the Minister. I have spoken to the Chief Engineer and I have been given every assurance that it (the roads) will be looked at. I will continue to apply some pressure to ensure that it’s done as soon as possible because I know how crucial the situation really is,” Montoute said.
Montoute said he was moving with added haste to fix the roads because he didn’t want bus drivers to go through with their threats of strike action.
He said the road conditions are the most serious of the bad situations facing the Monchy community.
Mr. Montoute said he also plans to open the ICT centre soon.
