The Former Chief Medical Officer, Dr Stephen King has called for more action to implement Universal Healthcare in St Lucia.
Dr King said St Lucia must now move beyond the talk and start to implement.
He said the health sector is plagued by division which leads to duplication, wastage and patients not being referred in a holistic way.
“What we need to do is create a more organized and coordinated…what we would call an integrated system; integrated between community and hospitals and between the public and private sector. Because at the end of the day everybody has got the same objectives and we need to come together as one team for one health,” King said.
Universal healthcare has long been a goal of the government of St Lucia. The initiative is meant to guarantee access to a basket of health services to people regardless of their economic circumstances.
