Two arrested for drugs in drum

Two men were arrested  and charged by Vieux Fort police after attempting to export drugs in a drum, law enforcement sources have told the Times.

The men were identified as Thomas Augustin of Anse La Raye and Robby Etienne of Dennery.

They were charged with attempting to export cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply.

Augustin and Etienne were taken before the Second District Court and received bail in the sum of $18,000.

According to law enforcement officials, the two men arrived at the Vieux Fort seaport in a two-door pick-up truck on Wednesday of  last week.

The vehicle was allegedly transporting a drum which, when examined by Customs Officials, was found to contain some 141 pounds of marijuana.

The drum was to be placed on a vessel bound for Barbados, it is reported.

The two men  were arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene and leaving the pick-up truck behind.
