Former General Secretary of the Saint Lucia Teachers’ Union (SLTU), Wayne Cumberbatch, was among two long serving teachers who were honoured recently by the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) for their service to the teaching profession and trade unionism in the region.
Cumberbatch was recognised along with Judith Spencer-Jarrett of Jamaica.

SLTU President, Julian Monrose, said the recognition given to Wayne Cumberbatch was a source of great pride to the local union.
Monrose, who was re-elected unopposed as President of the CUT when the organisation met here recently, described Cumberbatch as an activist and a stalwart of the SLTU.
“For many years Wayne was a delegate to the CUT – he served on many committees to promote the work of the Caribbean Union of Teachers, so we are very happy that the Caribbean Union of Teachers saw it fitting to recognise Brother Wayne Cumberbatch and give him its highest award,” he stated.
Cumberbatch is a former General Secretary of the Saint Lucia Trade Union Federation.
