SLASPA, insurance company collaborate

GIS:-The Saint Lucia Insurance Council Provided Information on Several Areas of Maritime Insurance.

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) through its Maritime Division, held a meeting with the Saint Lucia Insurance Council to discuss the area of Maritime Insurance.

SLASPA, the lead agency charged with the safeguarding of ships in Saint Lucia’s waters is keen to reinforce and expand the protection of maritime assets with emphasis on commercial vessel coverage, including vessel owners’ liability policies to protect seafarers, persons enjoying Saint Lucia’s waterways, property, and the marine environment.

Christopher Alexander, Director of Maritime, said: “SLASPA’s Maritime Division continues to recognize the importance of insurance coverage within the boating sector and in that regard is collaborating with the Saint Lucia Insurance Council in protecting nationals, the tourism sector and the vessels engaging in boating activities on island. The meeting’s outcome will bring about a review of the policies of mandatory insurance coverage in expanded areas of maritime.”

In an effort to determine the risk factors within the boating industry and ways in which these risks can be reduced, SLASPA aims to cultivate a close relationship with the insurance community, to facilitate lower insurance premiums and pay outs as well as easier access to insurance coverage.
