St. Lucia Rugby Football Union’s Community 7s Tournament

PRESS RELEASE:-Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is on its second year of hosting Community 7s Rugby Tournament. The Tournament primarily aims to sensitize and introduce rugby to the many communities around the island. For 2017, the Tournament will be used for selection of players for national team training. SLRFU intends to send national male and female teams to international 7s competitions later in the year.

2017 Community 7s Tournament is scheduled to take place at the following venues

3 September 2017                  Soufriere Mini Stadium

9 September 2017                  Laborie Playing Field

17 September 2017                Dennery Playing Field

23 September 2017 (Finals)    La Clery Playing Field

All matches starts from 10:00 am.

2016 saw Rogues Rugby Football Club dominate in the male category and Whiptail Warriors Rugby Football Club for the female category.  This year VBCC Stingers male and female teams are hoping to dethrone the champs. It will be a task as the male team of Whiptail Warriors has been looking forward to the challenge. An up and coming team from Soufriere will be participating in exhibition matches in the Tournament. The team is composed of rugby enthusiasts from the community who have been training and working persistently to build Soufriere Lion Rugby Football Club that can go head to head against the more experienced Castries-based clubs.

SLRFU continues its effort in promoting rugby in Saint Lucia. The Union will be embarking in a school based rugby program for primary and secondary school children.  SLRFU strongly believes that aside from imparting the knowledge of playing the sport it is more important to convey the rugby core values: integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline.
