SLP urges government to make definite statement on SJH

Press Release:The Saint Lucia Labour Party calls on the government to immediately make a definitive statement on the future of the St.Jude Hospital.

The SLP notes the conflicting positions by the Allen Chastanet led administration on the reconstruction of the hospital since assuming office.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party is horrified by the statement made by Heath Minister Mary Isaac on September 14th, 2017 which was broadcasted island wide on the complete demolition of the hospital which was actively under construction when the UWP assumed office in June 2016.

SLP spokesman on Health Hon Moses Jn Baptiste also notes the hundreds of Saint Lucians who have either called or written to express their shock at the recent announcements by Mary Isaac.

You labours spent over $100 million on St Judes Hospital and you all never made a definite statement and that was deliberate. You went to the hospital gate on the eve of the 2011 elections making promises which you all never delivered. Now we are hearing the reality about the hospital you all are making demands. Didn’t the then PM and MP for VFort South, Alva 2nd deputy leader and MP for Labour and you Musa MP for VFort North realise the hospital was serving you people, your constituencies and you all did nothing for them? You guys have no shame.

You and you fellow bloaks couldn’t give a date after 2 terms and hundreds of millions, but you expect a date from chastanet after a year. The rooms are too small, the roofs too low and it is not properly ventilated, demolition seems to be one of the few options available. Trying to fix this fiasco will cost just as much as breaking down & rebuilding it to codes and standards for certification.

I am shocked. Nonsense from both sides exposing the ineptness of our elected leaders to perform credibly. But Moses your party is a major culprit having perpetuated that nonsense and mismanagement whilst continuously telling us innocent citizens that the hospital is soon to be opened. What a fraud

I am of the view that individuals posting comments are completely lost in their political world and are not in tune to current affairs. It is shameful of one to compare a not yet completion issue to cruel statement of demolishing an almost completed hospital. One need to stop putting political colour before country and write objective comments. This uwp demolished an almost completed Health Centre in Micoud after they won the 2006 elections and to date Micoud is without a Health Centre, is that what those of you writing the comments want to see? Do you want people to face possible injury ir death at tge deteriorating stadium? Do you all want the closure of the airport that must operate with a nearby hospital? What are this current government priorities? Why the monies used for CHTTI, OJO LABS and destroying the landscape at Beausejour not pumped into completing Sjh? You all need to stop behaving like blind mice and put country first.

Why is CHITTI and OJO LABS in this conversation. We believe that the public should know what is happening with St Judes. It is because of this government’s transparency we are able to ask questions or criticize. Nothing was said about St Judes during the last administration. Only broken promises of the re-opening of St Judes. Now the gov’t has told us what the experts is recommending. It is no good news for any government. The bottom line is Musa and the SLP is in no position to make request. Yes he is VFortian. Have we forgotten that we also had a PM as MP in the constituency of St Judes. We also had another MP in the South, who was also the 2nd deputy leader of the Party? They were all in government for 5 years which ended less that 18 month ago?
