A woman was rescued Friday after a vehicle she was driving plunged into the sea near Baron’s Drive in Soufriere, eyewitnesses have reported.
A Soufriere resident told St Lucia Times that she was by the courthouse when someone raised an alarm.
“When we arrived, the vehicle was in the sea – the lady herself was on the jetty and they were giving her CPR,” the resident explained.
“We are not sure what happened, whether the brakes failed or what,” the resident stated.
According to her, some fishermen went to the woman’s rescue after the vehicle plunged into the sea and managed to take the woman out.
The resident described the woman who was rescued as being in her late forties to early fifties.
“She is not a young person,” she told St Lucia Times.
“She alone was in the jeep – they break a glass, I think a window to get her out of the jeep and put her on the jetty,” the resident said.
A crowd gathered to watch the events unfold.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm.
The woman was taken to hospital via ambulance.
