GIS:-Mr. Chastanet said Government is Focused on Growing the Nation.
The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia sat with the local media last week, to address matters of the economy, and the recent crisis facing the Caribbean with regards to climate change and hurricane relief.
At a special press conference titled “The Briefing Room” held on Oct. 5, the Honourable Prime Minister Allen Chasternet engaged in an in-depth discussion with members of the media fraternity, answering questions on a range of subjects.
During the discourse, the Prime Minister stated that the government is still making headway in growing the nation.
“Myself and my government have not lost sight of what our mission is. Everything that we do is driven by our mission; and our mission is to provide a globally-competitive education system for the children of this country. It is to provide quality affordable healthcare. It is to make the country secure and to provide economic opportunities. In this initial stage we have said that we have to build a new Saint Lucia.”
The Prime Minister further commented that as he has stated numerous times before, change cannot happen instantaneously.
“It takes three years. It takes me three years to reengineer the civil service and changing the way that people think. Holding people more accountable and getting more productivity. Its going to take me three years to change agriculture in terms of how we are processing. Getting contracts to farmers so that people are not wasting their time. It’s going to take me three years to get the infrastructure of this country fixed, its going to take me three years to get the finances of this country fixed. Our goal is to restructure this country, fix up the physical infrastructure, fix up the human infrastructure and fix the financing of this country so that we have the access to affordable resources,” he said.
Prime Minister Chastanet added that the country will be in a position to grow only when those things are place.
