A 10-foot alligator killed a woman walking her dog in Fort Pierce, Florida on Tuesday.

According to local media, weighing about 700 pounds, the reptile first attacked the 85-year-old woman’s dog but went after the senior citizen when she tried to save her pet.

The dog survived.

Officials identified the woman who died due to the alligator attack as Gloria Serge.

According to reports, Serge was walking her small dog along a retention pond behind her house when the alligator came out of the water and attacked the dog, later turning on her.

Trappers later caught the reptile and killed it.
