The Saint Lucia Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Service Legion is currently observing Veterans Week 2017, from Nov. 1 – 12.

President of the Saint Lucia branch of the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Service Legion, H.M.L. Cyril, will address the nation on the occasion of Remembrance Day 2017.

“It has been 71 years since the Saint Lucian contingent which represented Saint Lucia in the First Battalion Caribbean Regiment returned to Saint Lucia from active service in the theater war,” he said. “There were over thirty Saint Lucians among the 120 plus soldiers from the Windward Islands of St. Vincent, Grenada, and Dominica in the Caribbean Regiment. The boys from Saint Lucia did well and we should be proud of them. We have a list of names and some pictures of a number of the veterans from Saint Lucia. If anyone wants to know anything about his brother, father, or family member who was in the last war, we are pleased to assist.”

Remembrance Day honors the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the world. In commemoration, citizens wear a bright red poppy. Remembrance Day also honors those who came back from the war and are now in the evening of their years.
