UN Human Rights Expert visits Venezuela by request of the National Government

RNV: Alfred-Maurice de Zayas, American lawyer, writer, historian, specialist in the field of Human Rights and an independent expert for the promotion of an International Democratic and Equitable Order of the UN, is in the country attending an invitation from the National Government, to learn about the Venezuelan reality.

The Chancellor of the Republic, Jorge Arreaza, after the meeting held with De Zayas on Monday at the Headquarters of the Yellow House (Chancellory) in Caracas, said that the invitation was made last September during the session of the Council of Human Rights of the United Nations, where the national delegation denounced the position of the High Commissioner of the United Nations, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, regarding Venezuela.

He assured that the Human Rights expert has full freedom to meet with representatives of all sectors of the country, so in the coming hours he will hold meetings with institutional actors, ministers and public authorities.

At the meeting, De Zayas – said Arreaza -, expressed concern about the political violence, the financial blockade imposed by the United States and the use of external debt as a mechanism of foreign intervention that has impeded the entry of resources for social investment.

“We were reviewing instruments of external economic intervention such as fixing the illegal dollar through malicious web pages and monetary policies of neighboring countries that also damage our currency, the war against the currency, the war that generates induced inflation.”

The occasion was propitious, he said, to explain how from some instances and media the human rights issue is manipulated to attack countries, citing the report presented by the United Nations High Commissioner, whose intention is to damage the image of Venezuela.

During the meeting, which he described as frank, De Zayas acknowledged the effort made by President Nicolas Maduro in the promotion of peace, through calls for national dialogue.
