Patient evacuated as fire breaks out at Soufriere Hospital

Firefighters were summoned tonight to put out a fire at the Soufriere Hospital, the second such blaze within a month.

Eyewitnesses told St Lucia Times that the fire tonight occurred at around 7:00 p.m. and was confined to the maternity ward.

The blaze was eventually brought under control.

Emergency Services reported that one patient had to be evacuated.

An emergency official said that the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, as is the cause of the fire.

A well informed source told St Lucia Times that the Soufriere Hospital operations are being temporarily transferred to the Etangs Health Centre.

Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, was among officials at the scene of tonight’s fire.

I am at a lost for words….can’t figure out what’s happening (twice). St. Lucia’s health care needs are great …folk need to really wake up healthcare is of paramount importance.

Are you saying “they” (not the current government) are responsible for the fire, so that the government will “FEEL” ?

    Serious,

I am not saying anything other than the needs of St. Lucia are great specifically in healthcare. I don’t know who is responsible for the fire….let’s use this forum for purpose intended. Thank you

Two incidents of fire at the same hospital, in a very short space of time, is unnerving. I hope the causes of the fires would be ascertained and preventative measures would be put in place. Security and safety should be given top priority then healthcare a very close second. The government should focus like a laser beam on these two priorities, the security and healthcare systems, and make them excellent and exemplary institutions. Proper structures are needed to house these institutions and the personnel must be well trained.

“A government that doesn’t hear will feel”, has a very sinister undertone. Make sure the people of St. Lucia are not the ones paying for your sins. People be careful who’s side you take. I just do not understand, since election night the country is being plagued by higher crime, rape and many fires. Maybe we should get rid of that stupid illuminati symbol built in the vieux fort square.

Bravo to the Soufriere Fire Service.
Did some pyromaniac start the Soufriere Hospital fire on 9-11 (November 9) to create some tragic history? Is it a strange coincidence that the St. Jude’s Hospital Fire occurred on September 9, 2009 (9-9-09) or 9-9-9 if you prefer? Could it be that there is a pyromaniac at work in the medical sector who targets hospitals on certain days? How can one have a second fire at Soufriere Hospital in one month? Investigate, investigate, investigate and follow all clues please.

And all the clones go bravooo the hospital is burnt we will get new one built .. Smh when will we stop playing politics.. Some of us Lucians act like fools ; ignorant at its best… Why don’t they go and catch their houses on fire instead. . this just can’t be real hospital burnt once , it got burnt again a second time in the same month ? So what’s the cause of the fire ? Quit playing games smh mwehh fasehhh . people just too ridiculous .. My opinion is final . what ever the reader thinks that’s your business .

    A government that doesn’t hear will feel…..
    I share the same sentiments.
That exact line came to mind wen I heard of that 2nd fire.
I can’t explain what went thru my mind but ppl can think of wat they want.
Ill keep the rest of my thoughts in mind .
Im in no position to accuse any political party or anyone for the fire.

    BUT

Are we expecting any more hospitals to be on fire??.
Lord put a hand in Lucia cuz there’s plenty of wicked demons out there.
We need lots of prayers in St.lucia.

If our hospitals have electrical problems.
Authorities let’s fix dem up.Go rectify the problems.
Go out there and start inspecting those buildings
    Come on , COME on……

Is this pathetic and shameless person who call themselve “broken” real? Are you implying that if this was a case of arson then it’s justify just because it will put pressure on the government? A government that doesn’t hear will feel? Whats that suppose to mean?

Lord put a Hand and if you can a foot, this is why we so backward small minded, gutter thinking people. We so busy playing politics our houses being robbed, our grand mothers getting rape, we Are prisoners in our own home. I wish for a complete investigation on this twice!!!
