PRESS RELEASE: The Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre (FRC) is embarking on an afterschool programme for At-Risk youths from ages eight (8) to eighteen (18) years currently enrolled at a learning institution.
The programme will begin on January 15, 2018 and end on August 31, 2018. The programme will run from Mondays to Fridays from 3:30 pm to 5:00pm at FRC’s premises at Mount Pleasant, Castries.

The Programme will:
• Provide supervision of students in a positive, structured and safe environment;
• Provide academic focus with time to complete homework, receive tutoring to complete if needed. (There will be a homework log and forms to help track individual homework and school progress);
• Provide opportunities to engage in extracurricular activity ( Music, Drama, Dance, Art etc);
• Provide live skills training such as conflict resolution to enable students to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.

The programme caters for fifty (50) students who will come from the following Communities: Leslie Land, Morne Du Don, Grass Street, Vieux-Fort, Soufriere, Anse-La-Raye, Bois Patat and Machand.

It has been observed that keeping students actively involved in school-related activities lessens the chances for them to get involved in criminal activity such as substance abuse, theft and other activities that may result in youth violence.
