Digicel and Machel Montano Music Academy

PRESS RELEASE: Saturday, February 3, 2018, Castries St. Lucia: St Lucia’s Shaquille Wilkinson, Sherwinn Brice and the duo – Jean Atem Farah and Tylor Ryie Auguste all wowed both judges and fans alike to secure three of the nine spots at the recent Digicel and Machel Montano Music Academy that was held in Jamaica. Digicel, launched the massive platform for aspiring singers, song writers and producers from the region, to showcase their artistic talents for an opportunity of a lifetime, to be mentored and coached by Soca sensation – Machel Montano – and more than 150 hopefuls registered.

After registration, fans were then invited to vote for their favourite nine from the submissions, from November 27 – December 10. The selected St. Lucian contingent then joined the other six participants for the three-day academy at the GeeJam Studios Jamaica, and were coached by Machel Montano and other top personalities from the music industry.

Speaking of their experiences, Ryie said, “It was amazing and life-changing meeting Machel. The energy and everything, it was just an amazing experience.” His partner Jean Atem added, “There was so much diverse music coming from all the contestants from around the Caribbean and having the king himself bring that aura into the room, he is simply a spirit god.” Shaquille also gushed about his experience, “It was phenomenal. Meeting great producers like Deputy from Roc Nation – who by the way produced hits for Rihanna like ‘Better Have My Money’ – who said to me if he had the amount of talent I do when he was my age, by now he would have been even greater. He encouraged me to continue what I’m doing and have fun with it.”

Siobahn James-Alexander, Digicel St. Lucia CEO said of the Academy, “We were thrilled to offer this one-of-kind opportunity to budding artistes. This is the kind of value we will continue to provide through our sponsorships, as we seek to connect people to the things they love most.” Digicel will soon be announcing the winning team that has earned the honor to perform as part of the Machel Monday cast in Trinidad and Tobago’s on February 05.
