USA Today:– A Long Island, N.Y., judge who was accused of breaking into his neighbor’s home and taking their daughter’s panties said he is a serial underwear stealer.
Suffolk County District Judge Robert Cicale repeatedly broke into his neighbor’s home to take underwear from their 23-year-old daughter’s hamper, because he felt “urges,” according to a written confession.
Cicale, a married father of three young children, was arrested Thursday after the woman, who previously worked as an intern in a law office where Cicale was a town attorney, saw him in her bedroom doorway, WPVI-TV reports.
Cicale ran from the home, but police later caught him nearby on the street with several pairs of panties in his jacket pockets, CBS New York reports.
“Obviously, this case is highly disturbing. This is an individual who swore to uphold the law and violated it in a very serious way,” Suffolk County District Attorney Tim Sini told CBS New York.
Cicale pleaded not guilty, posted $25,000 bail and walked out of court on Friday. He’s required to stay away from the woman and wear a GPS tracking device. The state court of appeals will determine whether he will be suspended.
His attorney, William Wexler, said the judge was known for his great reputation and his wife is standing by him.
