National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis, has asserted that a survey of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) would reveal that a ‘large percentage’ of the officers have university degrees.
“Police officers are recognising that education is important,” Francis, a former Deputy Police Commissioner, explained.
“They are now doing some form of education for themselves, so they now go to Monroe (College) – the good thing about it is now you have Monroe, you have online tuition and so on, so you can easily do that,” he told St Lucian Times.
Francis said he was happy that police officers are educating themselves.
However, he asserted that the government has to assist and guide the officers to some of the areas of study that will enhance the RSLPF.
He mentioned areas such as law, forensics, firearm and handwriting examination courses which he said are not easily available online.
Francis said the government could facilitate officers by sending them to countries like Taiwan and Canada to study.
