PRESS RELEASE: Castries, Saint Lucia (13 April 2018) – Saint Lucia Jazz 2018 combines eclectic melodies with the intimate extravagance of two of the island’s newest resorts to create ‘A Taste of Bourbon Street’ and ‘A Musical Tapestry’.
The series begins with ‘A Taste of Bourbon Street’ at the islands newest resort, the Harbor Club. The newly opened Harbor Club, with the beautiful Rodney Bay marina as its backdrop will host Saint Lucia Jazz dinner sets for two nights only on Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11. Dine and enjoy the staccato rhythms and powerful vocals of critically acclaimed Jazzmeia Horn as she performs jazz of the classic brand infused with modern flavours of gospel and neo-soul. Described as the future of jazz, the evening is expected to hit all the right notes.
The soulful sounds of Lalah Hathaway and the eclectic melodies of Alfredo Rodriguez create, ‘A Musical Tapestry’ which blends the soulful sounds of jazz with crisp neo-jazz melodies to present a riveting musical experience at the at the Royalton Saint Lucia Resort & Spa.
On Friday, May 11, 5-time Grammy® Award winner Lalah Hathaway takes over the night to deliver one of her signature performances. The daughter of legendary American jazz singer, Donny Hathaway, her collaboration list includes Pharrell Williams and Kendrick Lamar; and her performance history has seen invitations to the stage from icons including Prince, Mary J Blige, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Anita Baker. Hathaway’s exceptional vocal talent and soulful music have made her one of the decade’s most sought-after Jazz performers.
Known for his crisp bebop lines, melodic and thick harmonic clusters, acclaimed Cuban pianist, composer, and arranger Alfredo Rodriguez will showcase his talents on Saturday, May 12. An immigrant to the United States from Cuba, Rodriguez is a globally recognized Grammy®-nominee with three critically acclaimed releases on tastemaker imprint Mack Avenue Records: Sounds of Space (2011), The Invasion Parade (2014), and Tocororo (2016). His latest creation, “The Little Dream”, is reflective of his personal life story where ‘tiny dreams manifest into grandiose realities’.
