Cuba to display Beauty of its Culture in United States

HAVANA, Cuba, May 3 (acn) Artes de Cuba, a two-week festival in the US capital, will show the humanity and beauty of the Cuban culture, Alicia Adams, curator of the event, told Prensa Latina news agency.

Adams is the Vice-President of International Programming at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where the American public will be able to enjoy the theater, dance, music and visual arts and films of the Caribbean nation from next May 8 to 20.

The specialist recalled that two decades ago she began traveling to the Caribbean island where she met several artists and realized that Cuba was an extraordinary cultural place.

With this approach came the idea of celebrating a festival entirely devoted to the neighboring country, in which there will be fifty events with the presence of 400 artists.

According to Adams, the festival will be attended by artists both living in Cuba and USA such as the famous dance band Los Van Van, drummer Yissy Garcia, octogenarian singer Omara Portuondo, pianists Aldo Lopez Gavilan and Rolando Luna, percussionist Yosvany Torres, the Cuban National Ballet along with its 97-year-old director and Cuban prima ballerina Alicia Alonso, among others.

In addition to music, dance, theater, film and visual art exhibitions, the festival will also include a Cuban fashion show, and even old American cars to add a touch of Havana.
