T&T: Religious leaders unite against gay marriage

Trinidad Express:-  A front of prominent religious leaders, including Roman Catholic Archbishop Jason Gordon and Maha Sabha Secretary General Sat Maharaj, have thrown the gauntlet at Government over gay rights and intend to seek to prevent same-sex marriage through the law.

The group, which said yesterday it represented some 90 per cent of the national community through its various faiths, intend to press Government to redefine the Marriage Act to specify that it must only take place between biological males and females.

They plan to pressure Government to have this amendment passed in Parliament by a special majority by the first session of the next Parliament in September. They will soon take a joint statement to Parliament and start a petition.
