Police concerned about use of high powered weapons

Saint Lucia police are concerned about the use of high powered weapons by criminals, a senior law enforcement official has told St Lucia Times.

According to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, such a weapon is suspected to have been used in the shooting incident in Wilton’s Yard on Sunday evening.

“The criminals are upping their game,” the official told St Lucia Times.

Unidentified gunmen sprayed  the community, leaving bullet holes in several places.

A number of spent shells were recovered from the scene.

The law enforcement official told St Lucia Times that based on the type and number of shells found, compared with the length of time the gunmen are said to have been firing at their target, it is ‘quite likely’ that a high powered weapon or high powered weapons were involved, even though weapons can be modified.

According to information obtained by St Lucia Times, three shooters are suspected to have been involved in Sunday’s shooting in Wilton’s Yard.

The incident resulted in the death of Stephen Francis, 47, alias ‘Face’.

The police have great cause for genuine concern. The type of illegal guns on the street is becoming more sophisticated. Getting guns and ammunition seem to be easier than buying bread. The intelligence agencies need to find these loopholes for the entry of these illicit weapons into the country and plug these gaping holes. Leadership is sadly lacking so the slaughter will continue . A massive crackdown needs to be launched on known criminals and their followers. Search their person, search their living quarters, search their vehicles, search their hang-out spots. Ensure that these searches have the backing of the law. Rid the National Security Ministry of all the dead weight starting with the do-nothing, ghost-like figure of Mr. Hermangild Francis. He is a lazy intellectual lightweight. He has no solutions to this most serious problem. People should demonstrate peacefully and call for his resignation. Crime has become much worse under his misleadership.

Before any crackdown, law enforcement agencies should surveille these guys for some time to cut off the head of the snake. You don’t just want the guys on the street level, you must also focus on their bosses.

Bring back operation restore confidence. To hell with the Americans. Where are they to help us now that they have made those crimials think that they are untouchable. If the police don’t take action now those high powered weapons may be later used on them.

We thought that this government had the answer to crime on the whole, but instead they are there to pet their visas on their passports, hence the reason why they are not taking a firm decision on this crime business. The Europeans and Americans don’t care about us; their concern is for us to be their watch dog in and around the waters in order to prevent drugs and weapons from entering their countries. Now here we are protecting them and we are embarrassed by high powered weapons in our country, so where are we now? Our law makers are watching their passports and the printed page on it! Only Stephen King, Vernon Francois and the ORC staff can do the job, so bring them in, and have the rest to leave the country and go to their allies, that’s my opinion, country first. Is that so difficult to understand?
