PM: Sadness, anger in Saint Lucia at Botham Jean killing

Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet has told reporters in Dallas, Texas, that there are two strong emotions of great sadness and anger in Saint Lucia over the shooting death of Botham Shem Jean.

Chastanet was speaking at a news conference Monday at which members of the family of the deceased and their legal representatives were also present.

He said there was sadness that Jean, 26,  lost his life at such a young age and knowing how close his mother, Allison Jean and the family were to the deceased.

“The other emotion is one of anger. To think that a young man would be in his apartment and the possibility could be that somebody could come to his door and he ends up being dead,” Chastanet explained.

“I know for the family there are also mixed emotions,” he said.

According to the Saint Lucia Prime Minister, while the family is emotional as a result of Botham Jean’s death, they have been forced into the situation of having to want justice.

“I don’t think any of us would truly understand the conflict of those emotions,” Chastanet told reporters.

“I am here to say that we are going to support the family,” the PM stated.

According to reports, Chastanet was in the United States on holiday with his family  and flew to Dallas after the news broke that a female Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, fatally shot Botham Jean in his own apartment.

It has been reported that Guyger allegedly mistook the flat for her own.

She was arrested Sunday on a charge of manslaughter and released on a $300,000 bond.

With all the problems of this country the PM takes off to Dallas. Can somebody explain to me what can the PM do in Dallas apart from attending a Press Conference. The Pm is very concerned about one St. Lucian killed on foreign soil (and we all are concerned also) but what’s about the 57 killed on St.Lucian soil last year and the 27 so far this year? Did the PM stand by any of the families here? It is here that he can do something if he is so much concerned about lives. Grieving families need support here also.

The PM did not specifically leave SLU soil to travel to Dallas. If we listen to previous news conferenceo of the Dallas Mayor, he contacted the PM to extend his apologies and was told by Chastanet that he was in NORTH AMERICA so he would make a stop in Dallas. Also indicated in this article is that CHASTANET was already in the U.S.A on vacation.

St. Lucians, the world is reading your the nonsensical remarks that you make about our PM. We may not agree with some of his policies but we must show a level of respect for our leaders. This is so shameful . Says something about your level of intelligence.

Cabaca, don’t you believe that the world is reading the many lies of the PM. Don’t you believe that the world knows that he sat in cabinet approves a cabinet conclusion that states that border control agency will be a statutory body and turns around a claims he knows nothing about it? And of course the list of lies can go on. You should display some intelligence (if you have any) in the things you defend. Caramba, Caraba.

People when you are writing your premature statement don’t write ‘citizen’ .
Just write any other name. I feel so embarrass especially when it it comes to lack of respect. If you have nothing to say to lift up your country with encouraging words please write in a notebook.
God please protect our country and enlighten it’s leaders

In much the same way that the USA issues Travel Advisories then Saint Lucia and other Afro-Caribbean countries should collectively issue Travel Advisories or Warnings against the USA warning our citizens of the threat posed by white cops if one is Afro-Caribbean.

It breaks my heart, I prayed when his body was brought home for rest. Saint Lucian would give him a warm welcome given he came aboard and made your inland proud. WOW guess I was wrong.

May God bless you all and keep you.
