UWP responds to opposition no confidence motion plan

Press Release:-  The United Workers Party calls plans by the SLP to table a motion of no confidence in the Allen Chastanet led administration as ludicrous and without merit.

It is absolutely mind boggling when all credible evidence suggests that the UWP government is rectifying the deplorable state in which it found Saint Lucia after being returned to office, by an overwhelming majority, following the June 6, 2016 elections.

It is clear that the SLP has no desire to respect the wishes of the electorate, and continues to pursue a course of denial and total disregard for the will of the people.

Evidence of St. Lucia’s economic recovery, with record numbers in tourist arrivals; a reduction in unemployment; the reduction of VAT from 15% to 12.5%; major road works around the island; and the soon to be commenced Hewanorra Airport expansion project; are signs of a significant positive turn in the management of the affairs of state by the UWP government.

Lamentably we see another shameless attempt by the SLP to sully the image of our island around the world with baseless threats and fear mongering.

This threat of a vote of no confidence is merely political posturing by the SLP and will be embarrassingly defeated whenever it is submitted.

The people of Saint Lucia spoke loud and clear on June 6.

Agreed. The audacity of the radicals. Frederick now wants to run for office onon SLP ticket . That will be a toxic party with so many crabs and dishonest men. If that ever happens then it will usher in the demise of St Lucia as we know it and will see the onset of everlasting bobol. That combination of Frederick, Kenny and Hilare forgetting the latent PIP, is a dangerous and explosive noxious Brew.

June 6th 2016 has gone. It is now 2 .5 years later. I and thousands of other Saint Lucians have regretted that we voted UWP.

Well based on that article it is clear that the United Workers party is not one for the people of St. Lucia. If I was part of this party I would be ashamed to say in two years and counting all I have been able to do is increase the numbers of tourist arrivals whilst tourist spending has decreased drastically. Reduced vat when consumers are not protected by any price control authority to protect them from price gouging. Also roads is something any government have to do so that is not an achievement if it’s not a new road and this government has not built a new road. Also the Hewanorra airport expansion will cost us millions of dollars which means that our debt to GDP will increase so please tell me what about that is positive for this country. When you took over in 2016, St. Lucia’s economy was at it’s best; so please share with us the mess that the UWP got so we can understand. What you dont realise is the people spoke in 2016 and gave the UWP the mandate but as of September 9th, 2018 the people came out in full force to show you that they no longer believe in the UWP administration and that you guys should pack up and leave. So please cabinet members when the vote of no confidence in filed please listen to the people and put Chastanent out cause if you chose to do otherwise the people will continue the REVOLUTION.

I agree with most of your statements. The UWP has definitely lost its way. However, your statement about the economy was in healthy condition, when SLP left government, is most erroneous, that’s an obese lie. Dr. Anthony departed government with the country near economic collapse, unemployment, especially among the youth, astronomically high. When you speak always tell the truth. The UWP, on its own, has done irreparable damage to its credibility and usefulness.

This press release is as direct and concise as can be. This is just SLP posturing and will amount to nothing. These guys are empty of any ideas except to disrupt the country.

UWP has themselves to blame for their present predicament. They gave SLP the belt to whip their derriere. Yes, the UWP was voted into government with a huge mandate. Unfortunately, they have misused it. The current administration is now hugely unpopular. Most people have lost all confidence in them to successfully manage the country’s affairs. The initial enthusiasm when the UWP came to power has totally dissipated, hope has changed to fear and despair. Narcissism, arrogance, authoritarianism, incompetence, immortality, corruption, disrespect of civil servants have all contributed to the growing unpopularity of this amateurish government. One term and out, good riddance.

While we have lost confidence in the Chastanet lead government; who will we vote for? Think about it!
