Opposition leader, Philip J.Pierre has called on Saint Lucian women to demand that government minister, Doctor Ubaldus Raymond, be fired from the cabinet.

Pierre was addressing the annual conference of the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) in Laborie on Sunday.

Senator Raymond has been at the centre of a nude photo scandal which led to charges of blackmail being slapped on two teenage girls.

Raymond said last week that he had forgiven the two young women involved in the January 2017 matter.

The government Senator said that the blackmail case against Curshaby Alexander and Kershel Louis, who were both 18 at the time of the scandal, had been resolved and that they had apologized.

Philip J. Pierre told the SLP annual conference that gender related bias is still a real part of life in Saint Lucia

He said he always avoids making comments on the private lives of politicians or parliamentarians.

“But when their behaviour is injurious to the public good, I have a moral duty to comment,” the SLP leader explained.

He told party faithful that parliamentarians have the privileged position of creating laws and therefore have a duty to respect and uphold those laws.

“The flagrant disregard for the rules of confidentiality in a mediation process by a sitting Senator at the expense of a young woman is distasteful and undermines the confidence in our system of justice,” the Castries East MP asserted.

He said such behaviour deserves condemnation from all quarters.

“I call upon the women of Saint Lucia to stand up and demand that Ubaldus Raymond is fired as a minister in the cabinet of Saint Lucia,” he stated to applause from those in attendance.

“That is a fight, not for the Labour party, that is a fight for all the women of Saint Lucia and the young women of Saint Lucia,” Pierre told the SLP event.
