Emergency personnel from fire service headquarters in Castries say they transported a 72-year-old male to the OKEU Hospital on Wednesday after a container truck hit him on Jeremie Street near the Castries Market.
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Manager at the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS), Fernando James, told St Lucia Times that emergency responders received a call for help about 1:20 pm and, on arrival, found that the man had sustained severe injuries.
According to James, emergency crews attended to the victim and immobilised him before taking him to the hospital.
“He was awake and alert – his vitals were stable at the time,” the EMS official disclosed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the senior citizen was crossing Jeremie Street when the ‘slow moving’ container truck hit him.
