The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) distributed $61 896.76 in funding to five national federations on Thursday, supporting both upcoming and recently completed events.
During the presentation, SLOC President Alfred Emmanuel reminded affiliates that while the organisation is committed to providing financial assistance when needed, adhering to application deadlines and reporting timelines remains crucial.
“At every cheque presentation, I take the opportunity to remind members of their responsibilities when receiving assistance from the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee,” said Emmanuel. “And the responsibilities are simple. You are to report within seven days following completion of the event, with a technical report and a financial report as it relates to the funding received. Simple procedure as it relates to reporting after receiving funds.
“But yet still, the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee secretariat still has to be chasing people long after the seven-day deadline. This is the final time we are going to remind individuals that the receipt of funds and the receipt of future funds depends on their ability to account, account properly, and account on time.”
Three of the five associations receiving funds on Thursday secured support for regional competitions. The Boxing Association was granted $20 000 to host the upcoming OECS Invitational Championships, while the Tennis Association received $15 000 for its participation in the Davis Cup Tournament in Trinidad & Tobago. The Volleyball Association was reimbursed $13 350 for expenses from the NORCECA qualifiers in the Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile, the Cycling Association obtained $8 546.76 to cover costs for its National Championships and support young rider Denver Alphonse, who is currently at a training camp in Canada. The Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation was awarded an administrative grant of $5,000.
This marks the third disbursement in 2025, bringing SLOC’s total quadrennial spending on member programmes to just over $311 000 as the organisation prepares for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
