The Castries Constituency Council (CCC), has issued an apology to an 87 year old Castries resident, who Wednesday morning fell on the sidewalk outside the Vendors Arcade.

The victim, identified as Oliver Henry of Arundel Hill, fell on his face after his walking stick slid on a metal strip that covers a drain, according to eyewitnesses.

He had to be rushed to Victoria Hospital after sustaining a suspected broken nose and cuts to both hands.

“We wish to sympathise with the victim at this time and to apologise for the mishap,” CCC Communications and Press Manager, Jason Hullingseed told St Lucia Times.

Hullingseed acknowledged that most of the sidewalks in Castries are in dire need of repairs.

“The overall goal is to reconstruct most of those sidewalks and as a matter of fact, we have been working feverishly on our sidewalk rehabilitation programme,” he disclosed.

According to Hullingseed, the project will come on stream very soon.

“We have been in dialogue with the ministry through the project of the OECS and we are just awaiting word so that we can begin the rehabilitation of most of those sidewalks within the City of Castries.”

In the meantime, Hullingseed urged members of the public to exercise caution whenever using the sidewalks.

“Tread cautiously,” he advised.

  1. It was something just waiting to happen, those metal what you call them get slippery when it rains and luckily it was not a foreigner who got injured or else he would have sued the life out of the CCC. This whole culvert covering done by slaves back who know when is a thing of the past, it does not rein anymore. Traffic lights don’t work, roads are not being re-marked, I visited tim-bok-too and they mush more advanced than us…..Lol

  2. You are apologizing? You had better apologize with money. We take too much for granted here. Are there any signs around to say be careful, slippery when wet? They had better pay for the man’s bills.

  3. I would hope that the CCC picks up the tab for the gentleman’s medical bills as well as his recovery and rehab in addition to some type of reasonable compensation for his injuries.
This is so very sad especially for a senior citizen. I wish him a speedy recovery.???

  4. The post clearly states reasonable compensation in addition to payment of the gentleman’s med bills. Thank you
