After being schooled at a workshop last Saturday September 10, 2016, in a number of pertinent areas, the semi- finalists for the 2016 Heineken Green Synergy DJ competition are expected to up their game this Sunday. That’s when the semi-finals of the annual event will be held, at the Ka Ka Bef in Vieux-Fort.

Last Saturday’s workshop for the DJs in both the skills and clash segments of the competition, was held at the Vieux-Fort office of Windward and Leeward Brewery Ltd, organizers of Heineken Green Synergy.

There, the attendees gained much useful tips and information on various subjects, not just pertaining to the competition but the whole gamut of the entertainment industry that they are a part of.

Junior Brand Manager (Global Brands) at WLBL, Mindy Chicot, welcomed the DJs while expressing that much is expected of them this year from both the fans and organizers. The workshop she said was part of the organizers thrust to help them improve beyond just the competition while the prize money which has been increased this year should serve as another incentive for the DJs to put their best foot forward. EC$18,000 (cash and prizes) is being offered to the winner in the skills segment of the competition this year and EC$8, 000 (cash and prizes) to the winner in the “Clash” segment.

Production Manager of the event Lyndale James of Oaktreez Inc. spoke Saturday on areas such as marketing and promotions, preparing for an event, pricing, equipment and professionalism.

He was followed by promoter Lamar Sifflet of Verve, who drew to the attention of DJs the expectations of a promoter, presentation and negotiation. Sifflet encouraged the DJs to come with their A-game for the competition since many promoters he says use Heineken Green Synergy as a platform to scout for new talent.

Radio announcer/MC Kendell “Scady” Eugene offered the DJs first hand advice on “the making of a good MC” and effective use of the microphone while head Judge for

Heineken Green Synergy Toni Nicholas presented the rules and guides of the competition.

The final presenter Trinidadian born DJ Scratch Master, spoke to the DJs about the do’s and don’ts and also offered some practical lessons in mixing and scratching.

Saturday’s session was totally interactive with DJs putting several questions and suggestions to the presenters and organizers.

Since then the final list of DJs performing at this Sunday’s semi finals have been posted to the Green Synergy page. They are in the skills segment: Fusionist Atta, DJ T Boog, DJ Licence, Play in HD, DJ Erv, DJ C 4, DJ Rufus, DJ Ratty, DJ Moko, DJ Nedely, DJ Swalli, DJ Pokey, DJ Shaba, DJ Static and Hyper Supreme.
