The Attorneys for Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) Castries South East candidate, Joachim Henry and Mrs. Claudia Henry, appeared at a press briefing Wednesday to assert their commitment to defending the couple.

Attorneys Lorne Theophilus and Leslie Mondesir are representing the Henrys who are facing charges of disturbing a service at the Forestiere Seventh Day Adventist Church on April 24, 2021.

The Henrys at the time confronted Castries South East MP, Guy Joseph, who was in the church.

But Attorney at Law, Leslie Mondesir told members of the media at Wednesday’s news briefing that police had not formally charged the couple.

However,  Mondesir explained that Mr. and Mrs. Henry were required to attend at the Major Crimes Unit about 10.00 am in the morning for a meeting with an investigating officer, based on a report made to the unit.

But he said about 9.30 am, he and Attorney at Law Lorne Theophilus received a call asking them to attend at the unit in advance of the scheduled 10.am meeting with the Henrys.

“We attended and we had discussions with the police,” Mondesir disclosed.

He said as a result of the discussions, what was originally planned for the morning  did not proceed.

“Mr. and Mrs. Henry were not required to make any appearance at the Major Crimes Unit. We were informed that this matter would be handled differently,” Mondesir explained.

However he declared that he and Theophilus remain committed at any time to defend their clients in the future, ‘should the need arise in relation to this particular matter.’

Questioned about the request to meet at the Major Crimes Unit which investigates ‘more serious’ matters, Mondesir said he could not answer for the police in terms of the direction they were given.

“We were just informed to meet the investigator at the Major Crimes Unit,” the Attorney stated.
