Babonneau cops Friday conducted traffic checks with a difference in their community, handing out gifts, not traffic tickets to motorists.
“We are primarily giving drivers and other motorists breadfruit, green bananas, macambo, seasoning and some other produce that we were able to gather from the community of Babonneau,” Inspector Terry Bradley, the officer in charge of the Babonneau Police Station told St Lucia Times.
Bradley said the initiative is part of the community policing drive.
“We the police always value our citizens. We appreciate the fact that the police and the public must work together to ensure that the community becomes safer,” he explained.
According to Bradley, Friday’s traffic checks with a difference represent just part of many other initiatives to come.
He told St Lucia Times that the public reaction has been very good.
“To actually see a smile on someone’s face – receiving something from the police, I think this is overwhelming,” Bradley declared.
