The Babonneau Police station has reopened to the public after a ‘COVID-19 deep clean’, prompted by an officer testing positive for the virus, police say.

The officer received the positive COVID-19 test result on Sunday, prompting the closure of the station to facilitate cleaning and disinfecting.

Police say persons with whom the officer had been in contact were placed in quarantine and are being tested.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Milton Desir, told St Lucia Times that although the Babonneau station is open, officers from Gros Islet are helping to man the station while  Babonneau officers deemed to have been at risk are in quarantine and the Ministry of Health conducts contract tracing.

During the period when the Babonneau station was closed, members of the public were asked to make reports to the Gros Islet or Rodney Bay stations.
