Police are investigating the death of a Babonneau teenager in a suspected suicide shortly after midnight Thursday night.
Law enforcement officials have identified the deceased as Donovan Therese.
According to the officials, he was hanging from a breadfruit tree behind his home.
Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) spokeswoman Annia Mitchel said Babonneau fire station personnel responded to a call relating to an unresponsive individual at La Guerre, Babonneau.
“The responders found a nineteen-year-old male who was suspected to have committed suicide. He presented an obvious sign of death. Due to this, the incident scene was left in the care of officers of the Babonneau police station,” Mitchel stated.
A post-mortem examination was due on Friday.

I believe that when we raise our children knowing God and building a strong relationship with him, then they have hope which comes from God. This country is in a mess. Only when we learn to pray, seek God and turn from our wicked ways, then we will see a difference.

It breaks a mothers’ heart to see her son suffer, no help she can afford, fearful of son’s reaction for speaking to others about his ills. Its only a small community and you know how that is; but there are other communities, someone else needs help, girls may chose other devices and other ways. Its all over the world – Lord have mercy on the poor.
Sad to read the young guy chose this exit. He probably felt that there was no hope. Whatever despair that one is experiencing, please remember never give up. This was a message an elderly man gave me years ago. I have kept it since and it has served me well in many ways. RIP.
wow – a mental health crisis has existed in St. Lucia for decades and needs to be addressed right away. Folk are afraid to seek help because of the stigma and the abuse that comes with it. Mental health issues should be treated like any other illness.
