Gunmen attacked Twist bar in Grand Riviere Tuesday night, robbing patrons and escaping with the cash register, eyewitnesses say.

The intruders are said to have entered the business place from the back and relieved an off duty cop of his weapon .

Police are investigating.

  1. That off duty police officer had to be part of the plot. That was his way of letting his thug friends get easy access to a firearm. An officer’s duty is to always be on the look out for criminals. Criminals always research their targets before striking. Police officers who do part time work by Twist usually let the guard down deliberately or otherwise. I drink by Twist regularly. During the day, I will sit by the counter but it is impossible to find me sitted there at night. I am not a cop but I am always prepared for the bandits. A cop on security duty should carry two firearms, one in his waist and one down his leg. If I know that, how come the cops don’t.

      • Jusst,
        Easy there, Bro or Sister.
This is not the place for this! There’s plenty of space available to you to debunk the brother if you believe that he’s not on point. Do use it ptudently and help to enlighten the rest of us, including him. Not so?

    • Lol was thinking the same thing. How you let another take your gun while being off duty? How slow was him to react…? Unless he was the first person to be held up with GUNS drawn. Was everyone searched..? This is certainly suspect. You at a bar with multiple people, did anyone run out..? Did anyone take cover, as the off duty officer should have to eliminate the treat. Take cover and simple say “Police”, that in it self should have the robbers running out to escape. Did the cop pursue to simply see the gateway vehicle..? Lol please state this cop name…it is too obvious that he was involve with the planning including being the lookout man for entry. #Facts Check this cop cell phone records lol robbers on speed dial 🙂

  2. Seriously, I am really hoping that this report isn’t a 100% accurate because it’s unbelievably difficult to understand how we’ve descended to this abyss whereby bandits can feel emboldened enough as to raid a premise right in the presence of a cop. Really? And to boot, relieve him of his weapon? No respect or even a modicum of fear of that institution , called the RSLP?

WHAT’S NEXT, MAY I ASK ? WHAT’S THE PROPOSED PROGRAMME TO COMBAT THIS NEW WAVE OF EMBOLDENED CRIMINALITY?

And I don’t think we should be fed with a menu of boisterous and belligerent platitudes from the RSLP hierarchy, the Minister for Justice or the Government, for this matter!

We need now a well calculated and concerted plans backed by sound legal and laeful action and resources. Security is an imperative and of great paramountcy in any country. And failure to observe this and embrace this will inevitably lead to doom.

We await with bated breath for some sort of reassurance; no need for the attempts to rationalize the genesis of these crimes, at this time. ACTION and SOLUTIONS are what we need!

    • Why is it difficult to believe? The old folk always told you it is best to discipline your child at the first sign of misbeahviour. We did nothing when criminals started their spree 20 years ago. It never occurred to you people it would only get worse? Geez!

    • The police themselves have no respect for the uniform. You seem them drinking in uniforming. Misbehaving and engaging in all sorts of lawless behaviour. How do you expect criminals to respect them?

  3. wow this is bananas…thank goodness no-one got hurt… on a different note, please tell me and I hope, this cop was not at the bar drinking in his dam uniform.

  4. When will it ever end?
Shame on thugs who are doing all this. People want to feel safe on such a beautiful island. Tourist’s will start to stay away, there will be less jobs, less money coming in ……..then what?
Stop this senseless violence and think of your family and the future of the island

    • Thugs have no shame or regard for anyone. When there are less jobs there will be fewer ordinary people to rob. And then hopefully they will start to rob the rich people who can influence policy.

  5. I’m no forensic or detective but the balata robbery and this one seems very similar especially it,s in very close proximity like from one community to the very next ….something amidst,i’m now wondering could this be the same perpetrators?

  6. Moncherry you are a failure as Commissioner of Police…but that’s what happens when we have square drunk pegs in round holes. Minister of national security is another total failure…another square peg in round hole. Nepotism is bringing this country to its knees, criminals recognise that our police are weak and lack good leadership and know how so they have become emboldened.

  7. thank you watchful, but its just so sad that there will always be people like A SMITH, that will forever criticize police officers for simply doing their jobs. You cant enlighten them all because most are stuck on being ignorant, so yes sometimes you do just have to tell them to s*** and move on. With that being said, i wish to express my gratitute to the officers who are doing their jobs. Thank you

  8. Chastenet, S*L*P! You are the biggest one in this country! When you were in opposition, your A55 was all over the media to the point you fooled people into believing you “will make us safe” since the previous couldn’t do so. Now that you are in power, we are not hearing anything from you? Chastenet, SaL*P! We need to hear from you as to our safety! What are your government’s policy or policies regarding the security of the people of Fair Helen? Less horses and more people!

  9. The police should have been all over St.Lucia Carrying out Searches night and day .for at least 5years none stop .Too much shit happening in St.Licia

  10. Oh well I just have to laugh at some of these comments. Some of you are in denial about what’s happening on the ground in St Lucia. Many of you calling for this and that to come back as if to say that’s going to solve anything. There is this influx of weapons in St Lucia and st Lucians themselves are responsible for it. The biggest thing here is robbery of small business these days I notice bars closing earlier than usual in the South because owners afraid patrons are afraid out of concern I don’t go to any watering holes in the wee hours anymore you have to be mindful

    • HIghgrade you so right

I buy my rum and sit my ass at my home, i was that person who be part of the late night crowd in the small watering holes , cah do that again…………………………………People make plans for in the event of a robbery or active home /vehicle invasion because nowadys its not a matter of if but when happens…………………………………………Police cah praotect us all not there fault . them men real brave or have repsect for the law , these parts have frequent patrols or may just been the illusion of frequent patrols…………..

  11. The gun has now become a means of income. Illegal gun owners are well aware of the weakness of the police force, and are now on a rampage. Unless a state of emergency is called immediately and emergency laws implemented or existing ones enforced, the rampage will continue, particularly as Christmas is approaching. It will get even worse when these thugs suffer losses at the horse race track.

  12. idk where they does get these police from..how a criminal “relieving you off your firearm”….so what yall does learn in training?

  13. For those thinking of bringing back ORC, keep dreaming. It did not affect crime then, it will not now. These criminals know full well that the possibility of them being hurt or die is part and parcel of the job and are willing to sacrifice their lives in doing so. The crime situation is a bigger issue than ORC and as such requires a multi pronged process involving all areas of society. We need to first start by giving people a livable wage for working and more jobs and community engagements for our youths. Our socioeconomic environment presently does not help in the long run and is s big part of where we are with crime right now. I know there are a lot of frustrated individuals presently that would like to get instant gratification in the form of ORC, I repeat, this will not solve the crime problem, for our situation is bigger and more complex than ORC.

    • Lincoln you’re high on something. St. Lucia is a third world country and was very very poor in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Unemployment was rampant, Social programmes did not exist. Single mothers still were single mothers yet crime did not exist in this manner. While I agree that ORC is a wrong approach as our police need to set the highest moral standard clearly you have the cause of the issue wrong.

      • I think you are still living in the past. We are not living in the past anymore. With the advent of better communication in the form of internet and cable this has change drastically. Being poor in the 70’s to the 90’s is very different from now. You are missing the point. People would rather do what they are doing now than work because they do not get a living wage or work below their market value. The lead up the crime is poverty and environment you live in, which branches out to all the issue we see presently. You need to get out of the cave you presently live in and you will see that we live in a totally different world than the 70’s to the 9o’s. Your point is well taken but you are totally wrong.

  14. Anonymous, you’re definitely on point. You’re absolutely correct; this malaise didn’t start last year, or year before or even ten years ago, but it’s been allowed to fester ad infinitum and now it appears that we’re faced with the inevitable and we’re under seige.

    But guess what?

Those in authority who have been charged with the responsibility for the security of our nation must learn and be told in no uncertain terms that it’s incumbent upon them to arrive at solutions that will bear positive results.

No excuses, no “buts” no “ifs “; they must bring an end to this seige and refrain from all the lame and empty platitudes about crime is all our business and we can’t politicize crime., etc

    Just solve the problem, period.

  15. Fellow citizens of SLU, it is time to turn from your wicked ways, repent of your sins and put Jesus in your lives and your kids lives as well. This is no longer a laughing matter as the criminals are getting bolder so before it gets out-a-hand, get under the blood of Jesus, my people.
The signs are all around us, the writing is on the wall, and that the end is at hand; get saved, my dear people and give him the glory.

  16. The Police should make it known that ALL criminals will be shot on the spot weather they have a weapon or not. Start executing those low life in the square. Tie them up to a tree or emblem and have the locals deal with them. Then after tose them in the sea…no funeral needed.

When I return back to St. Lucia, known criminals will be kidnaped and sacrifice. There shall be little to no murders or crimes in Soufriere. Only murders will be from my hands sacrificing them to the Gods for the good of the people. I am not sacrificing chickens, goats or cows. Bring me the hard core criminals…and shall thank them for their blood sacrifice to the land.

If non have the Hart or balls…I do. You shall know when I resettle…criminals will be dealt with as proposed. Men and women alike shall be tied to that “Freedom tower emblem”. Raise your kids better before i return because I am the last man they shall see as I slit their throat in sacrifice.

Bring back that list and pardon anyone who take the life of anyone on that list. Give them a reward if need to. Let it be known…all on the list shall be shot on site with immunity for anyone who gets the job done. Lol surely I am not the only blood thirsty around. Brothers and sisters get this done.

    • Keep dreaming up those “lists” in your own head, padna then when you wake up you will SLAP yourself silly for dreaming up this absolutely ridiculous diatribe!

  17. THE WAR IS ON – INTERNATIONALLY. THE ENEMY IS INVISIBLE TO THE NATURAL EYE. THE ENEMIES ARE EVIL SPIRITS.
IF ANYONE FAILS TO REALIZE OR ACCEPT THAT FACT, THEN I’M SORRY FOR THEM. IF YOU ARE UNWISE, STAY UNWISE.
IF YOU ARE SPIRITUALLY BLIND, THEN BE BLIND STILL. (now listen up) THE TIME IS SHORT, YOUR ENEMY KNOWS THAT.
HE’S BEEN ROAMING THIS PLANET FROM THE BEGINNING; HE WAS STRUCK DOWN, DISEMBODIED, HE AND HIS ANGELS.
HE AND HIS ANGELS ARE EVERYWHERE ON ALL THE CONTINENTS. “BUT WHO TARGETED?” HE WHO IS WITHOUT THE
‘SEAL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT’. ONE CAN ONLY RECEIVE THE ‘SEAL’ WHEN ONE ACCEPTS THE LORD “JESUS CHRIST” AS HIS
LORD AND SAVIOR, AND BEGINS TO LIVE A CLEAN LIFE. NO ONE CAN ESCAPE SINNING – BUT – WHEN ONE REPENTS AND
CONFESSES AND ASK THE LORD FOR FORGIVENESS, THE LORD THAT I KNOW – JESUS – FORGIVES ALL, ALL SINS, EXCEPT
THE SIN AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT: (DO NOT DENY THE THIRD PERSON OF THE TRINITY OF GOD i.e. THE HOLY SPIRIT)
OPEN YOUR EYES – LOOK ALL AROUND YOU, SEE THE RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD; THE “WORLD” – SAVED OR ALL LOST?

INSTEAD IT SHOULD BE “LOVE, JOY AND PEACE” OR YOU REAP THE “WILD WIND” OF DEATH & SORROW.

  19. This robbery and all its implications is the end of the process. Lets start at the beginning. GREED. It affects both poor and rich. DO NOT COVET THY NEIGHBOURS GOODS. As a child in the womb a mother’s distress affects the developing foetus’ brain development making the child more susceptible to anxiety and anger management issues fast forward to childhood lack of proper educational and emotional stimulus happens the proper maturity of the individual. Inability to determine right from wrong or to act accordingly. Teenage years hormones and conflicting parental messages lead to disobedience and maladjustment. Then we arrive at early adulthood with the freedom of independance and little emotional maturity mix that with a morally bankrupt society and what do you get. I WILL DO WHAT I HAVE TO GET MINE. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
THE SOLUTION starts with YOU. The citizens when you see a struggling family help if you can. When you see your wealthy family member mistreating their staff intervene. When you know your lawyer brother engaging in corrupt practices speak out. When your niece disrespecting herself talk to her. When you working in an establisment and they doing bobol get the evidence and bring it to light. AT every stage be YOUR BROTHERS KEEPER. IT MAY GET YOU KILLED BUT AT LEAST ITS FOR A JUST CAUSE. If we dont effect change in our little spheres of influence. We will continue to have these never ending conversations on what went wrong.
The solution WILL NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. WE HAVE TO MAKE CHANGES FOR THE NEXT GENERATION.

    Peace one and all
