Two bandits fled Tuesday morning after a security guard opened fire on High Street, Castries, as the duo attempted a robbery at Dr. Freezers on High Street, Castries, eyewitnesses say.
People on the scene said the masked bandits had entered the fast food restaurant and ice cream parlour when an alert security guard at another business establishment, recognising that something was amiss, discharged several rounds.
Reports indicate that at the sound of the gunfire, the two bandits fled empty handed.
However, the incident left staff at Dr. Freezers traumatised and at least two who suffer from asthma had to be transported to hospital via ambulance, according to the reports.
Just last month, bandits robbed the same business place, fleeing with cash within seconds after committing their crime which was recorded on CCTV cameras.
At the time, Manager Darren James told St Lucia Times that two men wearing masks, one of whom was brandishing a firearm, entered the business establishment and held up two employees while demanding cash.
James explained that the employees complied as the business place had instructed them to do under such circumstances to prevent harm to themselves and others.
