Blaine Girard, who appeared before the court Thursday, has been remanded in custody until July 8 on charges of possession of drugs, an illegal gun and ammunition, police say.
The charges against Girard stemmed from a police operation in Castries this week.
Law enforcement officials disclosed that the 42 year old Cap Estate resident who is originally from Jacmel, was in an SUV in which officers found what they believed to be cocaine.
Officers intercepted the vehicle near the Vendors Arcade.
And a search of Girard’s home turned up an illegal gun, ammunition and cannabis.
Observers on social media have however pointed out that investigators arrested, charged and brought Girard before the courts in very short order while there have yet been no arrests in the case of a shipping container said to have contained a large quantity of cannabis.
The haul, weighing some two tons, was found in April on the compound of a local business establishment in the North of the Island.
A source familiar with the investigation told St Lucia Times that it was a complex matter since no one was found near the container or attempting to access it.
The source disclosed that the police are still on the case, trying to determine who can be held criminally liable.
