Body Discovered In Babonneau Fire Rubble

Police are investigating the discovery of a charred body Thursday morning in the rubble of a  house fire  that occurred earlier this week at Talvern, Babonneau.

A senior law enforcement official told St Lucia Times that the deceased was identified as Steve Bernard, alias ‘Bico’, 51.

A relative said he was mentally challenged.

“He was not born like that but developed the condition when he became an adult,” the relative explained.

According to reports, an investigation was launched after neighbours complained of a foul smell in the area.

The body was discovered about 10.00 am beneath the rubble of the fire.

Bernard lived alone.

  1. So the Fire Service assumed that there was no one in the house when the fire started. Perhaps they should change their operating procedures to make it a standard practice to search through the rubble when any home occupied by a single occupant burns down.

    • I quit agree with that what ever you lost in the fire you’ll get it in the ashes so The 🔥 fire department should be able to do the survey to make sure.

  2. Why is it that the Fire Service does not routinely check for casualties when a dwelling house occupied by a lone individual burns down? The Fire Service should not assume that all occupiers of the home escaped the fire.

  3. I Agree that the fire fighters have to do a thorough check to make sure there was no one in the house. But Didn’t anyone miss the poor man? How long had he been there before his body was discovered, because according to what i read the body was only found when neighbours complained of a foul smell. Very Sad.

  4. You mean no one investigate about the man whereabouts after the fire. It is a disgrace for the officers. We all are equal in the sight of God and all should be of concern to society. No family member ask about the man after his home was burned down.shame!!!

  5. Something Fishy. So days after and only a foul smell would tell people that this man was dead, If he lost everything in the fire and was alive the least I expect is for family friends neighbours to look out for him to see how they can help. A beh it wed en Sant Lucie

    • Steve was not found because of neighbors…he was found because his family was relentless in searching for him. He was actually found by his sister…after visiting the site on numerous occasions. The fire department was negligent in their duty and responsibility. We called the fire department, they said they did a thorough search and found no one. Steve was loved by his siblings…all nine of them
