The body of a male was recovered from the sea at Praslin Thursday morning shortly before noon in an area described as Sea Moss City, reports from the community say.
Sea moss farmer and fisherman Bernard Francis told St Lucia Times that he was the one who took the body out of the sea.
Francis said he knows the deceased, a Castries resident, although not by name, having done business with him in the past.
“My daughter called me and told me a body washed up in the sea moss,” Francis recalled.
“I went to investigate and found the body about one farm away from mine,” he explained.
Francis said he ventured into the water and used a rope to pull the deceased to shore.
He told St Lucia Times he believes the man is the individual who was this week reported missing at sea after a boating mishap involving two men who put out to sea in a canoe.
It was reported that huge waves hit the boat in which the men were travelling, capsizing the vessel.
Both men are said to have started swimming to shore, but only one – a Vieux Fort resident made it.
