Brazilian-OECS Mission begins with Monday Business Forum

Delegates for the First Brazilian Parliamentarian and Business Mission to Saint Lucia started arriving Friday, ahead of a major Business Forum on Monday, to kick-off a week of activities aimed at creating conditions for better business between Brazil, Saint Lucia and the OECS.

The Forum, which takes place at the Bougainvillea Conference Room of the Bay Gardens Hotel in Gros Islet, starts Monday morning and will be declared open by Brazilian Ambassador to Saint Lucia and the OECS, Sergio Couri.

The opening session will also be addressed by two top Cabinet ministers from the Saint Lucia Prime Minister’s Office: Senator Dr Ubaldus Raymond, the Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Mrs. Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, Minister in the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Business Session of the Forum will start at 9am, with three major addresses aimed at setting the framework for the business discussions.

The first will be an address on “Strategies for Saint Lucia’s Development” by Mr. Bradley Felix, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Commerce, Industry, Investment, Enterprise Development and Consumer Affairs.

The second address, on “Investing in Saint Lucia: Opportunities and Framework”, will be delivered by Mr. McHale Andrew, CEO of Invest Saint Lucia (ISL).

The third address will be on “Investing in the OECS” and will be delivered by Dr Brian Francis, Director of Economic Affairs & Regional Integration at the OECS Commission.

The three sessions will also involve Question and Answer periods to allow the visiting Brazilians entrepreneurs and their local and regional counterparts to fully understand the information shared.

The Business Forum will end with a brief intervention by Ambassador Couri, who will offer “An Ambassadorial View.”

But the business briefs and exchanges between the Brazilians and their OECS counterparts will not end in Gros Islet on Monday.

After lunch, the visiting entrepreneurs will head to Morne Fortune for an encounter with other peers from Saint Lucia and the OECS.

The exchange – to be hosted at the OECS Commission from 3pm – will be in the form of “An Engagement Between the Brazilian Mission and the OECS Business Council”.

The Engagement will be preceded by a Press Conference from 2:30pm, also at the OECS Commission.

The November 11-17 Brazilian Mission’s stay will also involve visits to Vieux Fort, Soufriere and Canaries, exchanges with identified local business partners and visits to local business centres and private entities.

There will also be a meeting between the visiting Brazilian parliamentarians and the President of the Saint Lucia Senate. (The Diplomatic Courier)
