Brian Jawahir Appointed City Police Chief

Retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Brian Jawahir has been appointed the new City Police Chief, the Castries Constituency Council announced Tuesday.

Jawahir took the oath of office last week.

He is a former Commander of the Special Service Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

Jawahir started his career as a police officer in August 1978, working in various departments and at several police stations.

He completed training locally, regionally internationally, and took part in a number of regional police exercises.

During the period 2000-2002, Jawahir was seconded to the Central Liaison Office of the Regional Security System (RSS) in Barbados.

He held the position of Assistant Staff Officer and served as Land Operations Officer, Assistant Plans Officer and Disaster Officer.

Upon retirement from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force in May of 2013, Jawahir was appointed to the post of Safety and Security Officer in the Ministry of Tourism from November 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2017.

Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis, in welcoming the new City Police Chief, expressed gratitude to Jawahir’s predecessor, George Modeste.

Jawahir for his part, told reporters he feels honoured to serve his country once again, this time, in in the capacity of City Police Chief.

“This post comes with many and great responsibilities and great expectations from the community which I will be serving,” he stated.

Jawahir pledged to serve impartially.
