The General Secretary of the Saint Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA), Claude Paul, has disclosed that the trade union has received a number of queries from members, mostly belonging to the Customs Department, about the proposed new Border Control Agency.

Paul explained that the CSA is a worker representative body and if workers have concerns, it is duty bound to listen to those concerns.

He spoke ahead of a meeting with concerned members Tuesday.

“It appears that the workers have these concerns and they have called upon us to meet with them to dialogue so that at least we can engage with government to get the information and the clarity that they require,” the CSA official stated.

He disclosed that the concerns relate to job security.

“You see, the issue is one of trust and credibility,” Paul observed.

“In the past the same government would have said that no jobs would be lost, but we saw what happened with Radio Saint Lucia; before that – the tourist board, and there are other entities that have been targetted where we have members, for example the Marketing Board, the Printery, the Post Office.”

Paul asserted that there is an air of uncertainty and concern.

He said when people are told that they may have to reapply for their jobs, there will be concerns.

In February this year, Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet said that no one will be fired when the new border control body is created.

Last year  Chastanet had  announced plans for the  creation of the Border Control  agency, asserting that it will see the Customs and Excise Department absorbing immigration and the Marine Police.

  1. Claude paul you and Ava’s plan to shut down the airport today backfired you think thst you’ll run things but tjis government have workers who will not let the nonsense materialise. Yes Ava the south comptroller instructed all airport staff to attend the meeting today leaving it unmaned but tge good guys got the info long before and stepped in. Bravo Guys!.

  2. It was the Manager of Customs VFort (Ava) and the secretary of the CSA intention to embarrass the government by 1. Having the meeting on the busiest weekday at the airport and 2. by Ava instructing all the airport staff to attend the meeting.

  3. Over a rumour that was created by those same Customs officers who wanted to keep the busy airport unmanned.

  4. Those labour boys desperate to get back in power. I wonder what is so sweet that they willing to destroys the country for their own selfish gain. You see when you enter politics be prepared to stay for life because of the nay corruption they will not get jobs otherwise

    • The Kenny Anthony admin through public service wanted to make Ava Comptroller after Andy Fenelon left. Hence she left Min of Trade/Commerce, where she is qualified, to come back to Customs. Now she is on a mission to destabilize the country. She is using the VFort staff. She told the VFort staff that the Border Authority is commencing in October and that is far from the truth and she knows that.

  5. Whistle blower, James, independent, telling the truth, jeepy (all the same person) instead of attacking people and spreading nonsense why don’t you contribute to the discussion of whether the idea of this new agency is good or bad.

    • Apparently you have not read the release. There is nothing wrong with border Control. Highly recommended for St Lucia. It the rumors that was created y the SLP that scare the officers. That they have to resign and reapply. That officers will be going home. Poppie Paul know better. The documented rumor is in circulation. Why didn’t the shop steward deal with that rumor and take it up with the secretary who could get confirmation from the Ministry, instead of try to shutdown the airport on its busiest day? Just 2 month ago the PS finance was at a general meeting with the staff and that was dealt with. I am only TELL THE TRUTH. Not whistle blower, Independent, jeepy or James

  6. In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be…
This is the inter-related structure of reality.”
