A video that parodies a well known song by substituting ‘By The Rivers Of Bois D’Orange’ for the original ‘By the Rivers of Babylon’, has gone viral on social media.
The person who made the recording sings the substitute lyrics as he pans a stagnant, garbage infested river.
The recording shows piles of plastic bottles and other litter.
“By the Rivers of Bois D’Orange,” the man behind the camera sings.
“Where I take a walk and yea I wept, to see how nasty my people is.”
The video appeared ironically, hours before two others in which two neighbours in Gros Islet voluntarily cleaned up their Bella Rosa Community.
One of the neighbours was a woman in her seventies.
Both said they often engage in the activity.
The Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority (SLSWMA) says when people dispose of waste improperly and litter their communities with single use plastic, it harms the environment, clogs drains and pollutes the ocean.
The SLSWMA observes that as a result, it kills marine life.
